Leading Orthopaedic Practices Resolve Paper Chart Challenges with the SRS Software Clinical Document Management Solution

MONTVALE, NJ – January 30, 2007 Leading orthopaedic practices Carolina Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Center and The Moore Orthopaedic Clinic are eliminating paper charts and resolving the complexities of chart management with the introduction of the award-winning SRS Chart Manager™.

The Moore Orthopaedic Clinic made its decision to implement Chart Manager™ after comparing clinical document management companies.  “The simplicity of the SRS solution is most compelling,” says CEO Sean McNally.  “SRS enabled the practice to eliminate paper charts and made it easy for physicians to access charts from any location and at any time.”

With an active practice and robust patient database, Moore has been operating several offices in the midlands of South Carolina for the past 80 years.  Approximately 120 staff members, including 11 physicians and 11 physical therapists, use the clinical document management system.

“Our facilities only had room to house two years of active records on-site,” says McNally. “With the SRS implementation, we can now maintain up to 10 years of adult records, 13 years of pediatric charts and lifelong surgical implant charts.  Our staff no longer has to constantly run charts back and forth between the offices and the floors of each building.  The doctors, assistants, nurses and other staff have noticed a much calmer and less stressful atmosphere throughout the office since the implementation of SRS.”

Moore has also been able to reallocate staff and maximize resources, creating a more efficient work atmosphere.

“Instead of eliminating the filing and records clerk positions, these individuals now devote more time to working alongside doctors, interacting with patients and enhancing customer service,” McNally concludes.

Chad Ghorley, Administrator of Carolina Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Center, where six physicians implemented the SRS solution on June 1, 2006, says, “SRS required the least amount of change to the way our physicians practice medicine.  We are no longer forced to hunt down charts, a significant improvement, especially with initial plans underway to build a satellite office.  Additionally, we are now able to respond much more rapidly to patient inquiries and address individual needs — a true enhancement to customer service.”

Ghorley says that at the outset of their decision-making process, they considered hiring additional personnel to handle medical records.  “However, as a result of the SRS implementation, we actually eliminated two full-time positions and obviated the need for additional hires, further enhancing the anticipated return on this investment in technology,” he adds.  “SRS delivers these advantages as well as excellent product support.”

Orthopaedic practices report that SRS successfully addresses issues related to chart management among satellite offices and overcomes the challenges of coordinating multiple touch points for patients needing referrals, follow-up appointments, diagnostic imaging, lab tests, physical therapy and coordination of care with case managers.
